HIPAA New Final Omnibus Rule: Key Implications for Your Organization
Abstract:This session explores the details of the HIPAA Omnibus Final Rule, recently released by Health and Humans Services' Office for Civil Rights (OCR), which codifies changes to:
The HIPAA Privacy, Security, and Enforcement Rules to implement statutory requirements of the HITECH Act;
The rule governing patient notification in cases of data breach; and
The HIPAA Privacy Rule as required by the Genetic Information Nondiscrimination Act.
In addition, this session will explore certain other modifications that OCR has included to improve the workability and effectiveness of the rules, and their impact on covered entities.

Adam Greene, a nationally-recognized authority on HIPAA and the HITECH Act, primarily counsels health care systems and technology companies on compliance with the HIPAA privacy, security, and breach notification requirements. Adam is a former regulator at the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS), where he played a key role in administering and enforcing the HIPAA rules. At HHS, Adam was responsible for determining how HIPAA rules apply to new and emerging health information technologies and he was instrumental in the development of the current enforcement process.
